[hehe yay i'm looping diluc into something kinda fucking crazy
scien will pick up the multi-tool and turn it over in his hand so that it's offered to diluc, handle first politely. he shrugs off his lab coat and moves to unbutton the one single button on his shirt that's already done and it's not even in the right hole. i'm so sorry omo]
[though it'll probably be a little more readily obvious why he's okay with it when he shrugs off his shirt, revealing a dizzying amount of scars, stitches, bruises, and places where skin looks like it was truly just mended back together. i love a random lore reveal during weekend 0.]
Show me your arm. I'll indicate where to cut on mine.
[ SIR IT'S W0! diluc's gaze remains impassive as he takes in the immense scarring across scien's body. distantly, he remembers from his profile that this man is a physician of sorts (among many other things). ]
I can administer treatment after.
[ he nods to scien's medkit (NOT THE SINGLE USE MEDKIT), and extends an arm as requested. ]
but scien will just reach out to draw the line on diluc's arm, toward the crook of his elbow but avoiding any major arteries. i don't know medicine assume he's able to direct this.
unfortunately i knew it would always come to this so i bid my medkit goodbye because scien will only get worse from here]
Collect the blood in that vial. [a nod toward the one he's set out, it has a little topper as well] Three-fourths full would be enough.
[DILUC COULD LEAVE AT ANY MOMENT. LIKE. AND HE SHOULD?]
diluc isn't a doctor himself, but he's familiar enough with The Workings of the Body i'd say that he can tell it's not anything remotely dangerous. just unpleasant.
that doesn't stop diluc from assisting, if only to sate his own curiosity. ]
May I ask what this test is for?
[ i'm assuming there's enough disinfectant for the blade he's using and for dressing the cut afterwards. he preps the makeshift implement before gripping scien's arm firmly, and drawing a precise line where indicated. only deep enough to procure blood, which he collects into the vial.
I don't know how long we're going to be aboard this ship. Given the change in environment has never happened to me, I want to see what alterations are done to my blood to compare samples over time and to other inhabitants.
[BUT WE'RE REALLY DOING IT!!!
scien, wildly, doesn't even flinch. he just accepts the slice of the tool into his arm and watches the blood get collected. it's just one more cut to add to his long list]
Supposedly I'll get proper instruments to do a real draw in time. That's not soon enough when I don't know what they've already done to all of us.
[ diluc hasn't really had good experiences with scientists but he can respect scien's intent. it's surprisingly noble. (or it might be selfish, but for now he interprets it as benevolent.)
diluc does notice scien doesn't so much as blink when he slices into him, but makes no comment. with that many scars, his pain tolerance is not exactly a surprise. he seals off the vial once it's filled, sets it aside, and begins to clean and bandage the shallow wound. he works with crisp efficiency, as if he's had to do so many times before. ]
If you're in need of another blood sample, let me know.
[thanks sweetie. scien will just put his shirt back on, once again still badly. he re-buttons it, but the holes are misaligned and gives up after two this time.]
For me, and with the proper equipment? Seconds.
However the second piece is the issue at hand. They haven't provided me a lab to work with, and even if they did, I don't know if I trust their machines to give me accurate readings. I would rather build one myself.
[ ur rly gonna sweetie him when u have a sandwich in ur mouth like an anime schoolgirl running late in the morningggggg
diluc makes no comment about the shirt but we both know buttons: 1, scien: 0. (which is probably an unfair count to buttons.) ]
Impressive.
...Perhaps there will be opportunities to procure equipment in this line of work. Though, I'm not sure where you'd be able to store such a [ hypothetical ] machine. I'm of the impression we're under strict observation.
We are, but compliance would be more boring. [boring... like that's the biggest problem...]
They already know I intend on collecting samples, so there's little I'll have to hide—if I can improve upon their technology, they won't be able to easily get rid of my machines or me.
I have, but I have little trust for anything that they provide us. They have all the reason to lie, and little to be truthful—even if the best lies exist within realms of truth.
Preliminary findings can be gathered, but I'll consider none to be conclusive until I examine it all myself.

Cut my remaining arm deep enough to draw blood.
[i think about how they haven't exchanged names]

he levels scien with an even stare. ]
...You're sure?
[ this is not a 'no' by any means. diluc is kind of not okay in the head either. ]

[ GUESS WE CAN BURN THROUGH ANOTHER MEDKIT W0! ]

[scien lets himself be bandaged, a perfectly fine patient, though the smile that curls on his lips is more amused than it is kind.]
But it can wait until I'm given proper medical supplies. Normally the process is far less invasive.
[the way he's really on this careless when he's his own patient]

[ the way diluc is also like sure i too can get sliced open, no problem!
he releases scien's arm once he's finished, and steps back. ]
Noted. How long does a sample analysis usually take?

Fair enough. Our collective dissent has been made quite clear by now.
You're confident you'll succeed.

I do not engage with losing endeavors.

I can believe that.

I bid you luck, nonetheless.
[ succeeding doesn't mean there won't be a terrible time involved. even best-laid plans can use a measure of good fortune. ]

[just take the sign of good faith, scien, i'm begging]
Ragnvindr, was it?
no subject
Correct. Scien Brofiise?

[and in what is probably a non sequitur to most people:]
How is your health?
no subject
Nothing amiss, as far as I can tell.
no subject
sure
scien continues to look at him with an expression of intrigue]
No coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue, or illness?
[(scien voice) did you get covid at katsucon]
no subject
Not at all.
[ he gives scien an inquisitive look right back. he does not get the feeling the question is being asked without reason. ]
And yours?
no subject
Fine.
However before arriving here, I never met an individual in good health after their 20th birthday, and no one who lived past the age of 23.
no subject
That is most unfortunate. I do hope you'll find the results here you're looking for.

It may help to cross-reference the information on the monitors in the stasis room, regardless of accuracy. Though I presume you've already done so.
