his gaze fixates on a particular patch of flowers, as if searching for something among them. when he hears footsteps, this time he actually turns his head toward shouxue.]
I know enough memories and homes have been taken for these kinds of experiences - although this is the first time I've seen that those whose homes it was were also there.
[ that's got to add a different kind of twist to trauma. ]
Supposedly, over a hundred years ago, Death visited an individual in the country. He told that individual that he would be later proposing to his bride, and he would do so with all the spider lilies that could grow upon the island. Thus, the individual and the generations of their family were tasked with cultivating the lycoris noirges that surround the perimeter of Arpéchéle.
They did so despite the fact that the flowers bring death upon any who trample them, or pick them, or otherwise disturb them. In our country, they grow pitch black...
[and scien is thoughtful as he looks upon the bright red patch, something wistful and thoughtful in his gaze]
There are different iterations of it passed down... but there is one family that believes it, and while I don't think it happened exactly as they say...
I do believe that there is merit in the story's existence.

Am I going to be scolded?

she frowns and shakes her head before following his gaze to the flowers. ]
Unless it is something you asked for, I do not see the need to scold.

but scien shakes his head]
No.
But it was our home.

Did it help or make it worse?

but]
To myself, it is nothing unexpected.
But perhaps that is why I feel more as though the people who endured it did not deserve it.

she does know how to listen to what scien is saying, though. that makes sense to her. ]
That does not surprise me. Even if you all did not arrive needing to die, that alone would have said enough about what transpired.

It's not a good country. I only recently realized how many problems it developed while I was focused on my research.
no subject
And were those problems what stood out the most in the void?
no subject
It seems that those experiences are done with the intention to cause distress and nothing more.
[weird!]

[ even if he's straightforward? but you are banning me from seeking spoilers, so she casts her gaze back to the lycoris flowers. ]
Are spider lilies symbolic in your country?

[normally scien thinks it's stupid! but. he frowns and finds himself unable to look away]
Do you care to hear it?

... without question, they bring disaster.
And yet they grow.

[ she knows death comes differently on his island, with how the relivers are, but that's the meaning she gets from hearing this story. ]
Do most in your country believe in this legend?
[ she knows scien enough to assume he doesn't. ]
