They were. The parts from the scrap yard could be used to create things that assisted in the Helly Belly, whether it be an improved television, some strange automaton contraption, a camera system, some drones, a memory machine...
It's only theorizing... but since the lotus planet was pink, and lotuses often appeared in the Helly Belly upon death, there is possibly some relation between the planet and the pink haze. Supposedly the incidents of the past Eudora tour also started after visiting the lotus planet.

That is part of what my technology inherently does. Though I do think memory editing is too powerful and can probably only used for malicious reasons.
